My Victorian Armchair Find continues…..

The inside of my Victorian armchair restoration is now complete from the seat to the inside arms and back, all the traditional upholstery layers are in place. With that milestone done, I can finally turn my attention to the outside of the chair.

The first step on the outside is making and applying single piping. I cut my velvet on the bias, wrap it around a 4mm cord, and stitch it using a piping foot on my sewing machine. (If you want to learn this skill properly, I’ve got a full piping class on my website! Link in bio!)

The piping is then fixed to the arm faces, carefully following the scroll shape at the front. I did make a mistake here — I missed a section where the piping should also have flowed down the outside of the arm face. With a looming flight deadline, I pressed ahead, but don’t worry, it’s something I’ll fix later.

Next, I’ll be working on the front lip of the armchair, the outside arms followed by the outside back!
