Learn the basics of planting a "cottage" herb garden in a raised container. This video will show you what good soil should look like, the importance of drainage and how to weed out seedlings.

My soil mixture is not an exact science, I always start with a standard topsoil base. Then I add compost ( mushroom or manure) and then peat moss for water retention. Mix well, add some water if it appears dry. The idea is that it should form a loose ball when squeezed in your hand.

Pea gravel can be purchased in the garden section of any hardware store.
