Last week, CD Projekt Red unveiled The Witcher 4 tech demo during the State of Unreal 2025 event, highlighting major performance improvements in Unreal Engine 5.6. The demo showcased The Witcher 4 running at “4K” 60 FPS on a base PS5, which is quite impressive, though the noticeably soft image suggests some form of upscaling is being used (possibly TSR). But the main question is, how significant are these performance gains, and what could they mean for future UE5 titles? Could this new engine finally lead to better optimized games?

In this video, I’m testing the Paris demo running on UE 5.6 to see how much better it actually performs. Although it’s not exactly a game, this comparison gives a glimpse at how big the performance improvement is in UE 5.6. I’ll be comparing it to the latest version available for this demo, UE 5.4.
