I used to paint tiny 6x6 inch plein air studies—but today I’m pushing myself to go big with a 14x18 inch seascape at Waddell Beach in Northern California.

In this video, you’ll see how I handle the challenges of painting large outdoors: mixing big batches of paint, working fast with shifting light, and using palette knives and paper towels for texture and atmosphere.
