Akira Matsui, actor of the Kita Noh School of Tokyo, is featured. In Part I he focuses on the basic posture and demonstrates different patterns of walking and turning. Part II reveals the variations in these movements depending on the sex, temperament, age and personality of a character and the movements associated with travel. Part III explains the symbolism of selected hand gestures and movements of the fan. Part IV discusses how combinations of meaning and gesture are used to produce patterns of symbolic meaning.
