Hanson Robotics activated Sophia in 2016, this realistic humanoid made waves around the world for her incredible ability to mimic social behavior and even demonstrate emotional intelligence in her responses. She also has 62 electromechanical actuators, which coupled with her lifelike silicone skin allow her to make several facial expressions and navigate her surroundings independently, just like a real person on the street.

In a bid to demonstrate their commitment to technological advancements, and amazed by Sophia’s abilities, Saudi Arabian granted her honorary citizenship. A month later, the United Nations also made her their first robot Ambassador.
