Fingerprints are one of the most reliable forms of personal identification in forensic science.
At every crime scene, investigators look for three main types of fingerprints — each with its own story to tell:
1. Latent Prints – Invisible to the naked eye, these are developed using powders, fuming, or chemical methods. Found on smooth surfaces like glass, metal, or plastic.
2. Patent Prints – Visible prints formed when fingers are stained with substances like blood, ink, or paint and then touch a surface.
3. Plastic Prints – 3D impressions left on soft materials such as wax, clay, or soap.
Each type provides valuable clues that help forensic experts uncover the truth and link suspects to the scene.
