South Africa's agricultural sector is one of the pillars of its economy. It employs more unskilled labour than any other sector in the country. The industry accounts for 3% of GDP, worth about $10 billion, annually. Despite that relatively smaller footprint, it is still the most developed agricultural sector on the continent. Travers Andrews reports from the Western Cape; where the agricultural sector has been swiftly mechanizing as farmers wean themselves off an uncertain labour market.
