Who knew a free dresser could turn into such a gem 🤗
With a little paint, some new hardware, and a lot of love, I transformed this piece from forgotten to fab. It just goes to show that with a bit of creativity, you can breathe new life into anything!
Olive Oil Wood Conditioner Recipe
Ingredients:
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar)
Optional: 10-12 drops of essential oil (for added cleaning power and a fresh scent, i.e. lemongrass, honeysuckle)
Instructions:
1. Mix Ingredients: In a bowl or a clean spray bottle, combine equal parts of olive oil and vinegar. If using, add the essential oil as well.
2. Stir or Shake: If using a bowl, stir the mixture well until combined. If using a spray bottle, secure the lid and shake gently to mix.
3. Application:
Test First: Before applying to the entire surface, test the mixture on a small, inconspicuous area of the wood to ensure it doesn’t cause any discoloration.
Apply: Use a soft cloth or sponge to apply the mixture to the wood surface. Work in small sections, applying a thin, even layer.
Buff: After applying, use a clean, dry cloth to buff the wood, removing any excess conditioner and enhancing the shine.
4. Let it Sit: Allow the conditioner to sit for about 15-30 minutes to penetrate the wood.
5. Final Buffing: After the sitting period, buff the surface again with a clean cloth to achieve a smooth finish.
Storage:
Store any leftover conditioner in a sealed container in a cool, dark place. Shake well before each use.
Notes:
This conditioner is best for indoor wood surfaces. For outdoor wood, consider using a product specifically designed for outdoor use, as they often contain additional protective ingredients.
Vinegar is an effective natural cleaner that can help remove dirt, grime, and old finishes from wood surfaces. When combined with olive oil, it can help prepare the wood for conditioning by ensuring that the surface is clean and free of debris.
Reapply every few months or as needed, depending on the wood's condition and exposure to elements.
