American University Professor David Vine is an acclaimed anthropologist who has dedicated much of his career to tracking and logging the more than 800 U.S. military bases there are in more than 70 countries around the world. His latest book, “The United States of War: A Global History of America's Endless Conflicts, from Columbus to the Islamic State,” is due to be released in October. Vine sat down with Investigative Reporting Workshop reporter Austin R. Ramsey to discuss his work and his research and reporting methods.
