A geographical feature known as the 'Badlands Guardian,' which can only be seen from high above the ground. It looks remarkably like a human head wearing a traditional First Nations headdress, right?!
It's neither a man-made structure nor an ancient carving, but a natural formation created through erosion of soft, clay-rich stratum by the action of wind and water.
The Badlands Guardian was discovered in 2005 by Lynn Hickox using Google Earth. This is just one of the many geological and landscape oddities that have been discovered using Google Earth images.
According to thearchaeologist dot org,
"Although the Badlands Guardian could be a favorite tourist destination for many people, there is little tourism with regards to it. According to Mr. Lutz Perschon, Cypress County Manager, the image has a limited tourism potential since viewers can only see it from the air. On the ground, it is challenging to recognize anything unique about the place."
