In this video, I’m restoring a beautiful solid cherry Stickley nightstand using traditional refinishing techniques — no paint, just craftsmanship. This vintage piece had a badly damaged lacquer finish, but it’s too well-made to toss.

Although it’s smaller than the furniture I usually refinish, this Stickley nightstand has tight joinery, solid brass hardware, and gorgeous cherry grain — all hallmarks of heirloom craftsmanship.

The top was in rough shape, so I used a combination of chemical stripping, sanding, and toning to preserve the original feel. The brass pulls were cleaned and partially restored to keep some of their vintage patina.

For the final finish, I used Odie’s Oil to enhance the warmth of the cherry, which will naturally darken with age — giving this nightstand a timeless, modern-but-classic look.
