Foreign influence can take root in unexpected places. It can start in American classrooms, grow through university programs, and extend into local communities.

In this episode, investigative reporter Joshua Philipp explains how the Chinese Communist Party uses influence networks abroad to reach people who have access to business or political circles. Many of those caught in the middle are Chinese citizens living overseas, pressured by laws that leave them little choice.

He also describes the risk for those who refuse to cooperate and the courage of those who speak out, knowing it could cost them their future or even their family’s safety
