We're out in the natural reserve of the marshes of Séné in France, on the coast of Brittany, to make technical adjustments and test out our gear before our upcoming trip to Kenya. The perfect backdrop to talk about camera gear and my main camera: the Nikon Z6 II.

Considering the new Nikon mirrorless camera releases, such as the Nikon Z8, the Nikon Zf and more recently the Nikon Z6 III (or even the Canon R5 MkII or Sony bodies), the Nikon Z6 II is now a 4-year-old camera which may show its age.
Is it still a good pick for wildlife and nature photography in 2024? I try to answer as best I can taking into account a plethora of different considerations and my personal experience with the Z6 II body.

And if camera gear is not your thing, stay for the birds we encountered while in the marshes (in order of appearance): Black-winged Stilts, Pied Avocets, little Pied Avocet chicks, White Wagtail, and a Pied Avocet chick.
