1: Before you start editing, organize your video clips and assets. Create a clear folder structure and use descriptive file names. This will save you time searching for the right clips and media during the editing process. I used to just throw clips, assets, music, sound effects all into one folder and spent so much time searching for the right audio file, or clip..now by having a clear organized structure, I know exactly where everything is and this helps keep my project organized.

2: Learn and use keyboard shortcuts in your video editing software. These shortcuts can significantly speed up your workflow by allowing you to perform various tasks without constantly reaching for the mouse and having to search for the action in your editing software. Instead, most editing softwares allow you to create custom shortcuts to speed up your workflow and save you precious time. Identify what actions you use the most, and look for the corresponding shortcut in your editing software. After using them on a few projects to get used to it, you should be editing a lot faster!

3: If you frequently create similar types of videos, consider creating templates for your projects. This way, you can reuse settings, transitions, and graphics, saving time on repetitive tasks and maintaining a consistent look for your videos. For example, I use a preset for all of my color grading in FCPX that I throw onto a clip, and it has all of the color grading tools and features I need right here in the effects panel. Instead of having to go and pluck each effect individually.
