Video Content: Part 326B-AWOL Series: Flashback continues as I reflect on my Navy career, post-Navy life, and overall experiences. Reflecting with retired Navy shipmates sparked a meaningful conversation about reporting to a first duty station. After basic training, you’ll go through several days of in-processing before officially joining your unit. A sponsor is assigned to meet you on arrival, assist with check-in at the welcome center, and guide your transition. During this period, you’ll stay in temporary lodging, attend briefings, complete paperwork, update medical and dental records, meet with Housing Services, and sign for equipment at the Central Issue Facility. Once in-processing is complete, you’ll report to your unit, meet your supervisor, receive a housing assignment, and begin learning your role. Expect the first weeks to involve menial tasks, acclimation, and increased personal freedom balanced by greater responsibility. Be professional, learn base regulations, and use free time to explore the area and build friendships. Your first impression matters—stay positive, motivated, and responsible. These flashbacks remind me that life’s challenges offer unscripted lessons. Stay tuned for more!
