Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has asked the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to step aside pending investigations into the fire incident at the Akosombo power control centre.

The Minister says the move is intended to allow for a thorough and independent investigation into the cause of the fire.

A 7-member committee has also been set up to probe the incident, which left major parts of the country without electricity for several hours on Thursday.

The Minister has further announced a major leadership shake-up at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region. Although details remain unclear, the decision is widely believed to be part of efforts to improve efficiency within the power distribution system.

Dr. Jinapor is expected to address the nation on the recent power outages on Monday.
