🧪 Materials
• Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide, CO₂)
• A zip-lock plastic bag (quart or gallon size)
• Warm water
• Safety gloves and goggles

⚙️ Procedure
1. Put on safety gear. Dry ice is extremely cold (−78.5 °C / −109 °F), so never touch it with bare hands.
2. Add dry ice to the bag. Place a few small chunks in the bottom of the zip-lock bag.
3. Pour warm water. Quickly pour a small amount of warm water into the bag over the dr ice.
4. Seal the bag. Close it tightly and place it on a flat surface.
5. Watch what happens. The bag begins to fill up and expand as gas forms inside. If left long enough, the pressure may cause it to pop!

🔬 What’s Happening (The Science!)
• Sublimation: Dry ice doesn’t melt—it sublimates, changing directly from a solid into a gas.
• When you add warm water, heat speeds up the sublimation, producing lots of carbon dioxide gas (CO₂) very quickly.
• Since the bag is sealed, the gas can’t escape, so it builds up pressure inside.
• When that pressure becomes too strong for the bag to handle—BOOM!—it bursts.

🌬️ Science Concepts Demonstrated
• Change of State: Solid → Gas (sublimation)
• Gas Expansion and Pressure: Gas molecules spread out and push against the bag’s sides.
• Energy Transfer: Heat energy from water speeds up molecular motion and sublimation ra
