On July 8, a large-scale eviction drive in #Dhubri district, #Assam, led to the displacement of over 2,000 families from approximately 3,500 bighas of land spread across #Charuwa-Bakhra, Santoshpur, and Chirakuta. The land is earmarked for a proposed thermal power project under the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

#Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain visited the site three days after the drive, accusing the government of violating a #GauhatiHighCourt stay order and calling the eviction “illegal, inhumane, and unconstitutional".
