Apollo feels like a Helmut Newton image translated into architecture - sharp, luminous and composed for the lens. Designed by Haydn Ellis with its owners, the house is a study in glass, water and perspective. Light doesn’t just enter here, it performs: reflections from the lagoon and pool move across walls and ceilings, creating a sequence of frames throughout the day. It’s this choreography of light and space that has earned Apollo its reputation as a photographer’s playground.

Set on the water’s edge at ‪@benguelacove‬ Lagoon Wine Estate, Apollo remains one of the estate’s most pristine modern homes, even a couple of decades on. The owners were deeply involved in its making, completing the interiors themselves, so the house balances precision with personality. The pool - described by the owner as “stupid big” - anchors the property, turning sky and lagoon into part of the architecture. On moving in, the family joked that the light was so intense they needed sunglasses indoors - a detail that captures the house’s signature brilliance.

There’s also a touch of Kate Moss energy woven through the design: effortless, magnetic and always camera-ready. From the rimflow pool that dissolves into the horizon to the cut-out garden wall framing the mountains, every angle reads like a frame already composed. With more than 114 shoots behind it, Apollo has become one of the most iconic homes in the Amazing Spaces portfolio.
