Hi everyone, this is Jason Neufeld with Elder Needs Law. I'm here today with Al Kushner. And I want to tell you about how what he does relates to what I do. As an elder law attorney, I do a lot of estate planning and Medicaid planning. And estate planning, we all have to we’re all thinking about already what's going to happen to us and our stuff after we pass away. Well, something that we all have to hit upon that we may not like that may be uncomfortable is who's going to pay for what happens to us after we pass away, whether we want to be buried, whether we want to be cremated, whether we want to be shipped overseas, whatever the case might be, this is going to be an expense that someone is going to have to pay for at some point in time or another. And a good solid estate plan will have you getting this expense out of the way and not being a burden on your loved ones.

On the Medicaid planning side. Remember, that's where we're protecting people's assets to get the government to come in and help pay for their home health care, ALF care, nursing home needs. And so we're in the mode already and trying to get assets out of people's names. And again, it's always something I asked my clients, have you prepaid for your final, what do you want to happen to your final remains? Whether it's buried, whether it's cremated, because we want to get that stuff out of the way.

So with that being said, we have an expert on the subject, we have Al Kushner, he is a financial educator. He's a retirement specialist. He's an author. He's a speaker. Well, thanks. Well, as you mentioned, I am a financial educator, retirement specialists speaker. And the book I wrote was actually during the pandemic about last year, have plenty of time on my hands, which I guess a lot of people have, and realized this topic was pretty timely, you know, because the fact that I've seen a lot of people who died from COVID. And, and really are at a situation where they didn't realize that they need to cover expenses when, when paying for funeral. And it could be quite devastating to a lot of families and they really need to have some options available. And I felt, you know, having this book will make them have an informed decision on getting insurance. If that's a that's an option.

I think insurance, the concept of insurance in general is intimidating to a lot of people. So I think the fact that you wrote a book like this, you kind of demystify what's going on with burial insurance. But I think, again, when people think insurance, they think of something that's complex, they think it's something that they may or may not be able to qualify for. Talk a little bit about that. And talk a little bit also about the difference between burial insurance and the ability just go direct to the source and pre-pay for your funeral with the funeral home kind of what's the difference? What's the practical differences between the two?
