Panerai arrives at Watches and Wonders 2026 with four new Luminor watches rooted in one legendary blueprint — the Ref. 6152/1 from the 1960s. Zach breaks each of the four down in this hands-on review.

The Panerai Luminor PAM01731 brings the iconic 6152/1 cushion case geometry into the modern era, scaled from 47mm to a more wearable 44mm for the first time. That rich, matte tobacco dial — a colour making a long-awaited return to the portfolio — sits behind a domed sapphire crystal engineered to echo the look of vintage Perspex. Beige SuperLuminova. Pencil hands. Sandwich dial construction. This is Panerai distilled.

Its sibling, the Panerai Luminor Destro PAM01732, wears a dark blue dial and positions the crown on the left — not a concession to lefties, but a direct callback to Italian Navy divers who needed their left hand free for instruments. Hours and minutes only. Serene and purposeful.

The Panerai Luminor 8 Giorni Brunito PAM01733 is the wildcard — and arguably the star. Its Brunito finish starts with black PVD over steel, then is manually brushed to selectively strip that coating back, mimicking genuine field wear. Every case is subtly unique. The anthracite dial's hand-executed circular brushing creates a compelling monochromatic throughline from dial to case. And inside: the P.5000 calibre, delivering 8 days — 192 hours — of power reserve. That figure isn't arbitrary. It traces back to Giuseppe Panerai's original specification for military use, chosen to minimise winding and protect water resistance in the field. History wearing history.

Finally, the Panerai Luminor PAM01735 brings back the full 47mm — no scaling, no compromise. An ivory sandwich dial with a deliberately aged brown gradient toward the edges, simulating the tropical patina that vintage collectors spend decades hunting. The P.3000 inside offers a quick-set hour function for travellers. This one is for the purists who want their Panerai large, loud, and deeply referential.

Prices range from US$9,200 for the PAM01731 and PAM01732, to US$11,300 for the Brunito, to US$12,400 for the 47mm Steel. Premium positioning, premium storytelling to match.

This is Panerai at its most confident — not chasing trends, but reinforcing a legacy that needs no translation.
