Step 1. The US citizen fiancé files a K1 visa petition with the USCiS in the United States.

The purpose of the petition is to prove that the relationship is legit.

Step 2. If the petition is approved, the case will be transferred to the National Visa Center.

Then you’ll receive a notice from the US embassy in Colombia providing details about an upcoming interview, and you will need to complete and file a form DS160 online.

Step 3. Attend your visa interview in Colombia.

If that goes well, the consular official will normally issue the fiancé visa on the same day.

Step 4. Come to the US and get married.

You will have 90 days to do it after she enters the United States with that visa.

Step 5. Once you’re married, your new wife applies for adjustment of status and a marriage green card.
