From 1700 to 1812, the Kingdom of France was in a prime position to build history's largest empire and establish itself as the world's leading superpower. It had the finest armies on the planet, backed by a massive population and a powerful economy. France was also led by two of history's greatest rulers, Louis XIV and Napoleon Bonaparte. But despite all of this, France failed to become the global hegemon. Instead, Great Britain rose to claim the destiny that seemed meant for France. Why?
