First the government banned the export of sugar then it considered imports, happily forgotten. It favored sugarcane based ethanol then flipflopped to corn based ethanol and now is uncertain. Result there is a glut of sugarcane and no policy clarity.

Tesla was granted favour after favour by the government. Import duties on car components was slashed. Import restrictions on foreign cars were waved and project clearances came in a record time. But, its first car offering in India has not enticed customers.
