Performance and reliability testing are fundamental to Dyson's design process, subjecting machines to hundreds of tests as teams ruthlessly try to find faults and weaknesses with machines. DC49's on/off switch underwent 20,000 test cycles. The bin emptying mechanism underwent 2,200 cycle tests. And the hose external wear and tear testing underwent 11,000 cycles.
