Getting a wood grain trim effect for the dash fascia took some thinking. I decided to try painting the kit supplied decal (black trim) because it already had the right shape, size and cutouts.
I sprayed @ammomig Old Rust as a base, used a Liang wood grain template from the @ammomig website, then sprayed @ammomig Dark Rust over the top.
I followed a normal decal process of putting it into water, using @mrhobbyglobalws Setter on the piece, decal onto the piece then @revellofficial softener over the top.
When pulling the decal out of the water, I had to separate the overspray from the decal itself (lightly scraped from the rear), then after it dried I noticed the decal curled.
For a weathered build I think this specific example looks great - looks like a real separation. But I don’t think the concept works - at least with acrylics…
