Chowmohallah Palace, whose name means "Four Palaces" in Persian (Chow = Four, Mahallat = Palaces), served as the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad, who ruled the princely state from the 18th to the 20th centuries. It is a stunning example of regal architecture, combining elements from different cultural influences.


Khilwat Mubarak: The heart of the palace complex, it served as the durbar hall (audience hall) where official ceremonies were held. It features magnificent chandeliers, marble flooring, and ornate stucco work.

Clock Tower: A striking tower with a clock that has been ticking since the 18th century.

Southern Courtyard: The oldest part of the palace complex, it contains four palaces — Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, and Aftab Mahal.

Aftab Mahal: The largest of the four, built in the neoclassical style with tall columns and a grand façade.

Northern Courtyard: Features administrative blocks, fountains, lush gardens, and a vintage car collection from the Nizams' era.

Chowmohallah Palace is a symbol of the Nizams’ opulence and refined taste. It was the seat of power where state ceremonies and receptions were hosted. It reflects Hyderabad's rich history as a cultural melting pot under the rule of the Nizams.

The palace has been restored and is now a museum open to the public, showcasing royal artifacts, garments, weapons, manuscripts, and the grandeur of Nizam-era Hyderabad.
