Why do ducks stay still when it starts raining?
It's not because they enjoy getting wet - it's actually a clever way to stay dry.
Ducks have a small oil gland near their tails, and they use their beaks to carefully spread this oil onto their feathers. This oily coating, combined with their densely layered feathers, makes raindrops slide off their bodies instantly.
However, despite this natural protection from rain, they can lose body heat and even get sick in heavy downpours. So they turn towards the wind and rain to minimize heat loss.
