Decluttering isn't just about sorting stuff; it's about the feelings each item brings up.
We're moving from the countryside to the city, in a couple of months!

Identifying emotions while decluttering, for example "This makes me feel sad" or "This brings me joy", helps me understand why I'm keeping something or if it's time to part ways. It's about getting to the heart of why I'm holding onto items, making the decluttering journey not only easier but also more meaningful.
Imagine you have a soccer trophy from a few years ago. It can make you feel proud because you worked hard to win it, but also a bit sad because you miss playing with your old team. Or maybe it makes you feel annoyed because you don't play soccer anymore and it's just taking up space. So, with just this one trophy, you're feeling happy, sad, and annoyed all at once. That's how a single item can make you feel lots of different things, both good and bad, at the same time.
So, how do I decide what stays or goes? I reflect on the reason it's still with me, is it the memories, or just guilt over discarding it? I try to visualize our space without it, aiming for a tidier, more organized feeling. Sometimes, I digitize memories by taking a photo. When in doubt, items go into a "maybe" box. If, after a few months, I don't miss them, it's time they find a new home. I remind myself that letting go doesn't erase the memories. Yet I keep a "memory box" for truly special keepsakes, like some of my children' drawings.
