Spirit of the Mountain | 1 hr ambient fingerstyle guitar in Scottish Highlands | James R. Thomas

Greetings family! Thank you for coming to check out another video - this time in the peaceful and majestic mountains of the Scottish Highlands. This live one-take session, based on a few music ideas inspired by my my travels in Scotland mixed with a lot of improvisation, was recorded recently in October 2025. Surprisingly, the midges were still very present around this area and, just one hour before, it was perfect cloudy weather for them with no wind to drive them off. I peered out of the van window and saw the skies starting to clear and thought "Now or never!". Then, the perfect window of weather came through! No midges, no rain and the strong storm winds from two days prior passed by to the North.

This location became something quite special to me, which is why I decided to film this video here; it was the first set of mountains I ever saw in the Highlands when I arrived in August and it left such an impression on me. I stayed three nights in this area, hiking mountains like the one on the far right of the video, seeing and hearing stags rutting (the males challenging each other), swimming in the rivers and meditating/doing yoga in the energy of the place.

This session has a few 'scratches' let's say, but this channel is not about being perfect, just being real and trying to bring some light into the World in whichever way I can. I hope it brings you some peace.
