In late April 2026, in Etawah, a group of women from a local village reportedly destroyed a liquor shop by breaking bottles and damaging stock of around 2.4 - 2.8 lakh in a protest against alcohol related issues in the area.

As per the women the liquor shop was located in the middle of the residential area near homes and a school, where men allegedly gathered to drink daily, leading to frequent fights, abusive behavior, harassment, and late-night disturbances, and the situation escalated further after a recent clash between locals and shop staff, with residents demanding the removal of the shop due to its negative impact on families and children.

Following the destruction of the liquor shop, the police registered a case (FIR) against several women only involved in shop destruction.
