Jagannath Puri Dham Rahasya: A one-day omission resulted in the Jagannath Puri Temple, the largest shrine on Earth, closing for 18 years. The reasons behind this will surprise you! One of the most sacred traditions of the Jagannath Puri Temple is the daily lighting of the Mahaprasad fire according to the Niti Chakra. Also known as the celestial fire, it cooks offerings for Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra every day. This fire has never been extinguished for centuries and is considered a manifestation of the divine fire. The offerings are cooked in seven earthen pots in the temple kitchen, but surprisingly, the offerings placed in the bottom pot are cooked last, while the offerings placed on the top are cooked first. It is believed that if this fire goes out for any reason, the temple is considered impure and closed to devotees for 18 years. During this time, the temple is re-purified through chanting, rituals, and special yagyas. The offerings for Lord Jagannath and his siblings include many items like Khichdi, Malpua, Rice and Chhappan Bhog, among which Khichdi is considered the most favourite.
