Stephen Fenberg, Walt McRee and Ellen Brown discuss how FDR's power player Jesse H. Jones and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) always gave the private sector the first chance to do what was needed to get the economy moving again. If the private sector couldn't or wouldn't, the RFC stepped in. Support for the RFC came from across the political spectrum as people witnessed their communities being revitalized. The economy improved dramatically as a result of the RFC's programs. By 1936, after FDR had been in office for 4 years, Detroit was making more cars than in 1929 and unemployment had dropped by 8%. We are facing many of the same challenges today.
