Early voting ends Wednesday in Tennessee’s December 2nd special election—an election that will decide who represents the state’s 7th Congressional District in Washington.

The district spans 12 counties, including Decatur, Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Perry, Robertson, Stewart, Wayne, and Williamson counties. Early voting ends at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. See the early voting locations here.

Voters will choose from six candidates on the ballot, but the race has largely centered on Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn and Republican nominee Matt Van Epps, whose campaigns have drawn both statewide and national attention.

A race drawing national headlines
Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn, a former social worker now serving in the Tennessee General Assembly, is facing off against Matt Van Epps, a retired U.S. Army officer who most recently served as Commissioner of Tennessee’s Department of General Services.

In the past week, the race made national headlines after a five-year-old podcast clip resurfaced, showing Behn saying she “hates” Nashville. FOX News also highlighted several 2020 tweets, including one in which Behn expressed support for dissolving the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Behn’s campaign has dismissed the resurfaced clips and tweets, accusing Republicans of elevating the decade-old comments because her campaign is gaining traction with voters.

Van Epps, meanwhile, has framed Behn as “too far left” for the 7th District and has positioned himself as a traditional-values conservative, emphasizing national security, fiscal responsibility, and support for law enforcement.

Early voting ends Wednesday
Wednesday marks the final day to vote early ahead of the December 2 general election.

Election officials say turnout has been steady but note that many voters may still not be aware of the special election’s compressed timeline. Voters can cast ballots early at their designated early voting locations in any of the counties included in the district.
