The "third country removals" strategy, which deports people to countries with which they have no ties and where their safety cannot be assured, has been extended by the Trump administration.

More than 700 individuals have been transferred to third countries including Ghana and El Salvador as of October 9, 2024, many of whom have already been determined to be eligible for refuge or who have outstanding asylum claims.

Deported people have been housed in El Salvador's infamous CECOT jail, which is infamous for its cruel treatment and severe beatings.

The United States is probably implicated in human rights violations because their removals have occasionally broken court orders and international law.

People were occasionally deported to a third nation, such Ghana, where they were subjected to torture or persecution before being transferred back to their home countries.
