🧂 Ingredients:
Tamarind – small lemon-sized ball (soaked in warm water)
Tomato – 1 medium (chopped or mashed)
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Rasam powder – 1½ tsp (adjust to taste)
Crushed garlic – 3 to 4 cloves
Curry leaves – few
Coriander leaves – for garnish
Salt – as required
Water – about 2½ cups
For tempering (thalippu):
Ghee or oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin seeds (jeera) – ½ tsp
Dry red chilli – 1
Crushed pepper – ¼ tsp
Asafoetida (hing) – a pinch

👩🍳 Method:
1. Soak tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes and extract the juice.
2. In a pot, add tamarind water, chopped tomato, salt, turmeric, and rasam powder.
3. Let it boil for 5–7 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
4. Add crushed garlic and little more water (as needed for consistency).
5. When it starts to froth (don’t let it overboil), turn off the flame.
6. In a small pan, heat ghee, add mustard, cumin, red chilli, pepper, hing, and curry leaves — let them splutter.
7. Pour this tempering over the rasam, mix well, and garnish with coriander leaves.
8. Serve hot with steamed rice or enjoy as a warm soup! 🍲
