We’ll clarify that a high-protein diet is one in which protein constitutes more than 35% of total caloric intake. Next, we’ll address and debunk five misconceptions presented in the article.

Allow me to introduce myself—I'm Igor, the author of 13 books on exercise and nutrition, including four bestsellers on Amazon. I’ve been a personal trainer since 2016, training other trainers since 2013 and providing one-on-one mentoring. ✨ Now, let’s dive into the article's errors:

☑️ Keto Breath: The article wrongly attributes keto breath to a high-protein diet when it's actually caused by a low carbohydrate intake. A ketogenic diet, which causes keto breath, is low in both carbs and protein, not just high in protein.

☑️ Weight Gain: The article claims that a high protein diet causes weight gain due to increased calorie intake and saturated fat. This is misleading, as not all protein sources are high in fat. Many high-protein options, like lean chicken and fish, are low in fat.

☑️ GI Discomfort: The author suggests that high-protein diets cause gastrointestinal issues but fails to mention that low fiber intake also causes these problems. High-protein diets can be high in fiber, too, so the protein content alone isn't the cause.

☑️ Heart Disease: The claim that animal-based proteins increase heart disease risk is based on correlation, not causation. Similar to how ice cream sales are correlated with drowning incidents, this doesn’t mean one causes the other.

☑️ Kidney Issues: The article warns that high-protein diets can lead to kidney problems, but this applies only to those with pre-existing kidney conditions. For healthy individuals, a high-protein diet doesn’t cause kidney damage.

In conclusion, while moderation is key—too much of any nutrient can be harmful—it's essential to tailor protein intake to your needs, considering factors like activity level, body weight, and age.
