When pain arises, we often struggle with it, trying to make it go away. Or we worry: will it get worse? Will it ruin my day? The problem with these responses is that they can reinforce or amplify pain. Dr. Lilian introduces a paradigm shift for approaching pain: pain as an invitation for self-compassion. And: What if we could unlearn the fear and struggle surrounding pain?
Just allow whatever your experience is, to be. You don't need to fight anything. You don't need to fix anything. You don't need to change anything. Just allow your experience. And this might be a wonderful opportunity for a moment of self compassion. You can maybe place a hand on your heart or connect to your breath.
And repeat: this is a moment of suffering. Suffering is a part of life. May I be kind to myself in this moment. May I offer myself the compassion that I need.
