Corfu or Kerkyra is the second largest of the Ionian Islands. It is called the Green Pearl of the Ionian Sea. Thanks to its beaches with clear water, beautiful olive groves and its history, it was loved by the English writer Lawrence Durrell, who writes about Corfu in his novel Prospero's Cell, and also by the Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria called Sissi with her husband Emperor Francis Joseph I. whose castle is the most touristy visited place on the island.
