Rani ki vav patan /3D Laser Light & Sound Show /પાટણ રાણકી વાવ / tourist place / World Heritage site

history and Patan Rani ki vav World Heritage site : Located on the banks of the Saraswati River in Patan, Rani ki Vav (The Queen’s Stepwell) is one of the most exquisite examples of ancient Indian architecture. It is unique not only for its scale but also for its spiritual symbolism, designed as an "inverted temple."
Origin and Construction
The stepwell was commissioned in 1063 CE by Queen Udayamati. She built it as a memorial for her husband, King Bhimdev I, of the Solanki (Chaulukya) dynasty. While most stepwells were built for utility, Rani ki Vav was designed to be a masterpiece of both engineering and art, taking nearly 20 years to complete.
Disappearance and Rediscovery
For centuries, this architectural marvel was lost to history.
The Flood: Following a massive flood of the Saraswati River, the stepwell was completely submerged and silted over.
Protection by Silt: Ironically, the layers of silt acted as a preservative, keeping the delicate carvings safe from erosion and invaders for hundreds of years.
The Unveiling: It was rediscovered in the 1940s and restored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the 1980s. When the sand was finally cleared, the sculptures were found in near-perfect condition.
Architectural Highlights
Rani ki Vav is built in the Maru-Gurjara style and is divided into seven levels of stairs.Modern Recognition
UNESCO World Heritage Site: It was added to the list in 2014, cited as the "height of craftsmen’s ability in stepwell construction."
Currency: If you look at the back of the lavender-colored ₹100 note, you will see an illustration of Rani ki Vav.
Cleanliness: In 2016, it was titled India’s "Cleanest Iconic Place."
Quick Tips for Visiting
Timing: The morning sun hits the sculptures beautifully, making it the best time for photography.
Local History: Since you're exploring the North Gujarat region, Patan is also famous for the Sahasralinga Talav and its traditional Patola weaving workshops, which pair perfectly with a trip to the Vav.
