Hi Everyone :)
Welcome back!

I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.

This video contains :

1) Ambiguous Object: an amazing illusion design by Kokichi Sugihara of Meiji University in Japan, the inventor of this illusion and art form. A mathematically calculated combination of perspective and the physics of reflection produce this striking illusion that works in many configurations. My favorite discovery from G4G13 back in 2017.

2) @ Magnetic Top: A spin top kinetic art toy which takes advantage of Newton’s 3rd law and rotational kinetic energy. A fun find from KreiselParadies featuring part of my @physicsfun brand! The magnetized tip of the spin top connects to the smooth metal cutout, but since the top is much more massive, the metal cutout moves creating the curious motion.

3) What the F? Puzzle: fun math involved in the design of this puzzle, which illustrates how the concept of area can challenge our intuitions. A very nice version of the missing square dissection paradox puzzle by designer Dan Asay.

4) Am-241 in Wilson Cloud Chamber

5) Impossible Pipe Elbows

6) Colorwheel Manipulable Wall Art: three 18 inch acrylic disks with hand rolled ink/paint turn on a central axis allowing the addition and subtraction of densities of cyan, magenta, and yellow and thereby producing “all the colors”. Another exploration of the psychophysics and physics of color vision.

7) Bismuth Diamagnetic Levitation

8) Impossible Bottle Sculpture Puzzle

9) Flip Book Physics: silly and clever- when one riffles through this flip book it does indeed create enough breeze to extinguish a candle, fitting to an animation of a fan- if a pun were a book! The psychophysics of flip books- when the image flash rate is above the flicker fusion frequency (approximately 16Hz) we perceive fluid motion- the basis for all movies and TV.

10) Maxwell’s Dynamical Top

11) Pallasite Pendant: mounted within a steel frame is a slice of a special meteorite that is a mix of nickel-iron and transparent olivine. Jewelry from a violent collision event billions of years ago that destroyed a small planet and sent chunks of a mix of its core (metal) and mantle (olivine) into space forming small asteroids which eons later fell to Earth. Pallasite meteorites are a rare type with only 86 known specimens to date. This slice is from a 2016 find in Kenya and is called the Sericho Pallesite and features almost gem like peridot crystals of olivine.
