The cosmos is not static. Since the Big Bang ignited space and time, galaxies, stars, and particles have been in motion, driven by forces we’re still unraveling. Our universe expands like the surface of a balloon being blown up: every point recedes from every other point. Edwin Hubble’s observations in the 1920s showed distant galaxies moving away, with speed proportional to their distance.
