सौरमंडल(Solar System) important question revision series(part-1)/SSC,UPSC,CHSL,MTS इससे बाहर नहीं
The Solar System is our specific star system, named after our star, the Sun (Sol in Latin), and includes the Sun, its eight planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other celestial bodies gravitationally bound to it. While "star system" is a general term for any star and its orbiting objects, "Solar System" refers exclusively to our own system, which formed about 4.5 billion years ago from a collapsing cloud of gas and dust.
Key Components of the Solar System
The Sun: The central star that provides light and heat, and whose gravity holds the system together.
Planets: The eight recognized planets—Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—orbit the Sun.
Other Celestial Bodies: This includes moons, dwarf planets (like Pluto), asteroids, comets, and the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud, which are vast regions of icy bodies at the outer edges of the system.
Solar System vs. Star System
Star System: A general term for any star and the objects orbiting it.
Solar System: The specific name for our star system, named after our star, Sol.
Formation
The Solar System formed approximately 4.5 billion years ago from the collapse of an interstellar cloud of gas and dust.
This material swirled into a disc, with the central mass becoming the Sun and the remaining material forming the planets and other bodies.
Location
Our Solar System is located in the Milky Way galaxy, in a region known as the Orion star cluster.
The Milky Way galaxy contains billions of other stars, many of which are also believed to have their own planetary systems.
