The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 - 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.

The best of the best, simply perfect, pure perfection
That’s how wines are described that receive a 100-point score from one of the leading critics. When the 100-point scale was introduced by Robert Parker roughly 50 years ago, scoring wine was still frowned upon.

However, scores had an impact on demand, and when the first wines received a perfect 100-point score, it moved markets, wines sold out quickly, and cult wines became cult wines. Today, I am tasting 5 wines that received a perfect 100-point score from one or several of the main critics to show you what perfection really looks like.
Robert Parker once said that a 100-point wine is based 90% on the tasting quality of the wine and 10% on pure emotion.

So while many people believe that wine rating follows a strict process, it also involves emotion, personal preference, and subjective taste. Let's therefore see whether I agree with the 100-point ratings of some of the major critics.
