Washington’s overtime law is just one of the policies that are pushing family farms out of business. Farming is a seasonal industry and farmers depend on seasonal workers to help them harvest crops when it’s time. So they can get their fruit or vegetables to the market and onto shelves in the grocery stores.
Farmers have been clear, they are not against paying a fair wage. But when they can’t set their own prices, how are they expected to cover the expense of time and a half?
