Kemi Badenoch has announced that the Conservative Party will prioritise maximum extraction of oil and gas from the North Sea if it returns to power. In a speech set to take place in Aberdeen, Badenoch will reveal plans to overhaul the North Sea Transition Authority, scrapping its current mandate in favour of a single directive: to extract as much fossil fuel as possible.

Badenoch criticised Labour’s net zero policy, calling it “impossible ideology,” and argued that Britain cannot afford to leave vital resources untapped while facing some of the highest energy prices in the developed world. She pledged that only the Conservatives would put common sense, growth, and national interest first.

Meanwhile, Labour’s Energy Secretary Ed Miliband accused the Conservatives of being “anti-science” after abandoning the UK’s political consensus on climate change. In the latest Met Office-led report, findings showed the UK is already hotter, wetter, and facing more extreme weather events, with Miliband reaffirming the government’s commitment to net zero.

This video covers Badenoch’s announcement, the debate on Britain’s energy future, and the clash between the Conservatives and Labour over climate policy.

Stay tuned for more breaking political news and analysis.
