Where did the coin go?! 🪙💨
Watch this mind-bending light refraction experiment where a coin seems to disappear and reappear — all because of how light bends through water! 🔍💧
All you need is:
A glass
A coin
Water
A saucer! 😄
Steps:
Step 1: Position a coin on a smooth surface, for example a table or desk.
Step 2: Position the base of a transparent glass on top of the coin.
Step 3: Place a saucer over the opening of the glass. Look at the coin from the side. The coin remains visible.
Step 4: Next, remove the saucer from the top of the glass and fill it with water.
Step 5: After filling the glass, place the saucer back on top. Observe the glass from the side again—can you still spot the coin?
Step 6: Take off the saucer and peer into the glass from above. The special coin is still there.
Experiment Results:
Because of the bending of light, the coin looks like it disappears. In an empty glass, light rays can travel directly to our eyes, so the coin remains visible.
This quick demo shows how visual distortion works through refraction — perfect for students, science fans, and curious minds!
