Singapore's move to legalize sex between males has been welcomed as a positive step for LGBTQ rights in Asia, a large territory of almost 5 billion people with varying laws and views.

Although many jurisdictions have decriminalized sexual conduct between members of the same sex, only a small number permit same-sex marriage, partnerships, or unions, Singapore confirmed its ruling by announcing that it would modify its constitution to prohibit such marriage in the future.
