If I had 5 minutes with my younger self before joining the Air Force?
Here’s what I’d say:
‘Don’t be scared—it’s not fear, it’s just the unknown.’
Back then, I didn’t know what to expect from the exams or screening.
I wasn’t afraid… but I had no idea what was coming.
Now, after 30+ years, I know how much it helps to have a clear picture.
I’ve mentored younger pilots, walked them through the process, and it made a huge difference.
So if I could go back, I’d say:
👉 ‘This is what the path looks like. These are the tests. This is how to prepare. Start here.’
Knowledge builds confidence.
And confidence changes everything.
